BUILDING INDUSTRY HONORS STONEFIELD'S FIRE REBUILDING
Robert C. Pack, founder and CEO of Stonefield Development, was honored Nov. 18 at the annual Building Industry Association of San Diego County (BIA) dinner with the Builders Helping Neighbors community service award.
The dinner was attended by approximately 300 industry professionals at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines Hotel. Live and silent auctions, a raffle and a kids' bike program altogether raised more than $30,000 for BIA Cares for Kids, the philanthropic arm of the BIA.
The BIA is a non-profit trade association that provides legislative advocacy, networking and industry communications to its 1,450 member companies and their 165,000 employees.
Pack was honored for his company's effort to rebuild 81 homes predominately in the Whispering Ridge neighborhood of Scripps Ranch that were destroyed by the county's devastating firestorms of October, 2003. It's considered the nation's largest such undertaking by one homebuilder in a disaster area.
Pack said he was grateful and humbled by the building industry recognition. "We believe our social responsibility in the aftermath of a natural disaster is to bring a heartfelt compassion for survivors and share with them a vision for the community."
He added, "Once we became involved with the survivors, we realized both pride and humility were important. We as builders must embrace the concept of fulfilling special needs of people at special times. Besides losing their homes, there are memories, personal belongings, family heirlooms and the like that were lost forever."
He said Stonefield's companywide effort is "especially gratifying because families will be able to move into their new homes."
Stonefield builds custom and ONE-OF-A-KIND homes throughout Southern California in the $800,000 to $6 million price range. Currently, its San Diego division offers three new home communities in San Diego County.
